ATM Caves From placencia

This 9-hour expedition from Placencia ventures into Xibalba, the ancient Maya underworld, via the ATM cave system in Belize's Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve. After a two-hour drive to Teakettle village, you'll navigate through mahogany forests before entering one of Central America's most significant archaeological sites. The main chamber stretches 350 meters long and 50 meters wide, housing countless artifacts and ceremonial remains. You'll climb, swim, and squeeze through narrow passages while exploring decorated upper halls and the famous stone sepulcher where the Crystal Maiden skeleton rests. Expect a full-day physical commitment. The journey begins with a two-hour air-conditioned drive through dense forest to reach the cave entrance. Once inside, you'll remove your shoes and proceed in socks to protect archaeological materials.
